Andor Episode 6 "The Eye" Review

 Warning- Spoilers Ahead.

Episode 6 of Andor has been the conclusion of a 3 episode arc directed by Susanna White. Cassian and the group of rebels he's found himself with, have the difficult task of breaking into an imperial facility and stealing millions of imperial credits, aka "the payroll". They also need to escape in one piece, amidst a phenomenon referred to by the local Aldhanis as "The Eye".

The episode shows the blurring of lines between the "good guys" and the "bad guys", something implied by Cassian in Rogue One when he tells Jyn explicitly that "we've all done terrible things on behalf of the rebellion". The episode packs one of the strongest punches ever in the form of outstanding writing, direction and completely mesmerizing visuals. As Cassian pilots his ship through the gorgeous celestial hues, one cannot help it but gasp at the sheer visual achievement of the scene.

It is completely Star Wars, the best of it, showing us things we can only imagine seeing with our own eyes. For a show that fans at times complained didn't feel like Star Wars, this entire sequence was as Star Wars as it gets. The heist and the rebels getting chased by tie-fighters reminded me of Rebels, where our favorite Ghost Crew often found themselves in similar situations.

Story wise, Andor has obviously reached its latest peak. It's hard to believe that it could get any better than the tension filled, suspenseful visual feast served by episode 6, but exactly 6 episodes still remain.

I want to give credit to Diego Luna for giving one of the finest performances by a lead actor in Star Wars. Cassian feels and acts nothing like he did in Rogue One, making it clear that the character will go a long way from here in terms of growth. His self serving, mercenary ways, and the lost, broken child in him will find a purpose in the rebellion, and his own needs and motives will obviously take the backseat over time.

Even in this episode, when Cassian chose to leave with his share of the credits, and killed Skeen, the rebel who showed signs of betraying the crew, it showed glimpses of the Cassian we know from Rogue One who risked everything to go along with Jyn for the death star plans on Scarif.

Mon Monthma (Genevieve O' Reilly) made an appearance at the Imperial Senate, while Luthen (Stellan Skarsgard) showed up at the end of the episode.

It's hard to predict where the show goes from here, story wise. The only thing we can predict is that it won't be long until Cassian has completely converted to the Rebel cause. Namik's Manifesto should play a key role, and I'm curious to hear its contents and see its significance in Cassian's life as well as the role he decides to play in the Rebellion.
