*Spoilers Ahead*
Episode 7 of Andor added even more to the rising tension in the overall storyline. We find Cassian back on Ferrix, where he has returned to meet Maarva Andor. Cassian hopes to take Maarva and their droid, B2EMO far away from Ferrix, with the credits he's earned from the Aldhani raid.
Meanwhile, news of the events on Aldhani have spread far and wide throughout the galaxy, sparking hope in those who are Rebels at heart, including Maarva. The ISB is seen already planning a retaliation, a "clenching of the fist", to stop the Rebels in their tracks before they think of doing anything more, while seeking authority from the Senate to spread their surveillance access in further.
Despite the simmering and relentless tension which we know is going to reach a boiling point very soon, this episode takes time to focus on the emotional weight on its characters, of a galaxy on the brink of war. While Mon Mothma struggles to carry on the farce of being a pesky senator and not the leader of a growing Rebel threat, Luthen is ready to break the façade of an antique dealer. Mon Mothma is stunned to find out that the Aldhani Raid was Luthen's plan as she thinks it's far too soon to attempt something so risky. Luthen tells her the harsh truth, that hiding won't work much longer. Mon Mothma is seen confiding in a childhood friend of hers who's also a banker, in order to gain access to her family's fortune, which she hopes to use for the Rebel alliance.
Back on Ferrix, Maarva and Cassian have an emotional conversation which is both well written and well acted. Maarva lets Cassian know that the planet is under a complete siege by the Empire and that he can't stay there, but also that she can't leave, giving Cassian no choice but to leave her behind and go into hiding on a resort like planet called "Neimos". While there, in an absurd turn of events, he's arrested for merely walking, and sent to prison for 6 years without any way of defending himself. It's an unexpected ending. Obviously, with the show taking place 5 years before Rogue One, it's impossible that Cassian can remain in jail.
The episode showcases a change in tone compared to the previous 6 thanks to the direction of Benjamin Caron, a regular on The Crown. Performances are mind blowing. The episode features a number of tense conversations with heavy repercussions for all the parties involved, including Mon Mothma and Luthen, Mon and her friend Tay, and Cassian with Maarva. Writing, performances and world building are top notch as usual. A near perfect episode. A must watch.
