The Mandalorian Season 3 "A Culmination" for Din Djarin, Season 4 to Film in Early 2023

The Mandalorian Season 3 will be released in early 2023, and the Mando team sat down with Entertainment Weekly during D23 in September. You may recall that the last time we saw Din Djarin was in Episodes 5-7 of The Book of Boba Fett.  Director Rick Famuyiwa discussed Din Djarin's future, and described the season as being a "culmination point" for Din Djarin. Here is exactly what Famuyiwa had to say:

In Season 1, we were introduced to Din Djarin who had until that point in his life strictly adhered to the Mandalorian Creed, worked as a bounty hunter in the Outer Rim region of the galaxy and been living in survival mode. He was lonely, and apart from his Mandalorian covert, he didn't have many friends. That changed as soon as he met Grogu, and we saw him gradually forming solid allies, including Kuill, Greef Karga, Cara Dune and Peli Motto. Season 2 was an extension of that, as he met more Mandalorians and even some Jedi. As his closeness to Grogu grew, so did his overall connection to the larger conflict in the galaxy. Perhaps in Season 3, we can expect Din to finally come to terms with the fact that he has a larger role to play, and that following "The Way" may not be in his or his child's best interests.

In The Book of Boba Fett, we saw Din being cast out by The Armorer and Paz Viszla for taking off his helmet, leaving just the two of them as followers of "The Way". Will Din continue to seek redemption for having taken off his helmet, or will meeting other Mandalorians on Mandalore make him realize that it doesn't take redemption for him to be a true Mandalorian? Perhaps Season 3 is about Din Djarin finally realizing that he has a much larger family out there, and that he belongs on Mandalore with them.

If Din Djarin does indeed abandon the Creed and chooses his own path, it will be the end of one part of his story, the one in which he lived as an isolated, lone bounty hunter. Now he'll be a father to a force sensitive child belonging to a different species, with friends that include the likes of Boba Fett, son of Jango Fett, a Mandalorian whose DNA produced an army comprising of millions of clones. Boba is also shunned upon by Bo Katan who was born and raised on Mandalore. Is Boba, the son of a Mandalorian, and Din Djarin, a man who spent his life trying to follow the "Way of the Mandalore" any less of a Mandalorian than The Armorer and Bo Katan Kryze? These questions are likely to be answered in Season 3 of the Mandalorian.

Meanwhile, according to Production Weekly, The Mandalorian Season 4 is due to begin filming in the first quarter of 2023. While this has yet to be confirmed, it may make some sense as John Favreau confirmed earlier this year that he was in the process of writing the fourth season of the show.
