As we get closer to season 2 of Andor, I'm sure some actual information on who's returning for Season 2 will manage to make its way into the media. Tony Gilroy has already confirmed that Cassian's droid companion from Rogue One, K2SO, will make a return in Andor Season 2. Many fans will surely be thrilled by this news. K2SO will definitely lighten the atmosphere as the stakes continue to get higher, the closer Cassian gets to the events of Rogue One. The post credit's scene of Season 1 showed us what the prisoners on Narkina 5 were unknowingly helping to build. With the Death Star being revealed, it's obvious that it will loom heavily over whatever happens in Season 2.
I think it makes sense to bring Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) back for Season 2. The race to complete the Death Star can be shown from time to time as Season 2 takes place over 4 years. You may recall that Krennic was director of Advanced Weapons Research for the Empire. If you have Krennic, then the case can certainly be made quite convincingly to bring back Galen Erso for Season 2 as well. Galen was the scientist behind the design of the Death Star, forced to work on it by Krennic against his will.
But of course, if Krennic and Erso are there, then the man put in charge to overlook the construction of the Death Star, Grand Moff Tarkin, can't be too far behind. Andor has avoided cameos, and even Palpatine has only been name dropped a handful of times. But bringing the big players in at some point shouldn't be taken in the wrong way, and should only add to the significance and somber tone of Cassian's journey and the show's narrative. These people played a huge role for the Empire, and their involvement, willingly or unwillingly, led to the loss of millions of lives.
Other characters from Rogue One including Senator Bail Organa, Baze, Chirrut, and Bodhi could show up as well. Bail in particular seems like a lock because he played a huge role for the Rebel Alliance before and during the Rebellion. The writers of Andor seem fully capable of handling the stories of multiple characters at once, without taking away from the overall story, and the emphasis on Cassian's journey.
The character I am most interested in seeing again is, without a doubt, Jyn Erso. I will discuss in another post why I think it is essential to bring her back in order to give the most well rounded story possible to Cassian, as well as the most meaningful finish to the show. Stay tuned!
